GUCCI Makeup – Review

Gucci Makeup Review

Gucci makeup has been driving me a little crazy lately. It’s been a while I’ve felt this way about a cosmetic brand.

The packaging has to be the best E.V.E.R I’ve seen in the beauty business. Also, Gucci’s decision to extend it’s famous logo embossing onto each of the beauty products – genius I would say. This is one of the reasons why girls like us don’t want to leave Gucci counter with empty handed.

By the outer appearance all GUCCI products are out graciously luxurious and I can go on about this stand alone fact forever. But, as makeup addicts all we want to know is if the quality surpasses the packaging?

Here’s what I have to say.  Advance warning of juicy makeup photos.

To conclude my opinion on Gucci makeup I’ve picked up a product from each category for this review – giving a miss to eye shadows.

GUCCI Face Lustrous Glow Foundation SPF 25
GUCCI Face Lustrous Glow Foundation SPF 25

GUCCI Face Lustrous Glow Foundation SPF 25 #120 (AED 260/-) – is a liquid foundation extremely sheer in texture with low coverage. When I say low – it’s very low, meaning zero coverage.  But I love this! Why? Because it delivers radiant skin, that too with an au naturel finish. I can guarantee you wouldn’t be facing any “cakey “situations with this foundie. Plus, it comes in my favorite combo – dewy with satin finish. Though this paring isn’t for dry skins it’s the best finish for combination. I merrily had to blot away my t-zone every 4 hours to control the oiliness whereas it lasted for a good 8 hours on me. Frankly I wouldn’t be using it daily. This doesn’t mean I don’t love it (I do) but the frequency of slapping this on my face is pretty limited. Yes, it does look good on skin, the finish is amazing, lasts long but low coverage is a serious issue. This is more of an ideal base to bring out and play with during holidays, date nights or any occasion you want your face to be the focus, skin to look like skin but never heavy. And, Lustrous glow foundation is dangerously photo-friendly. Very much selfie-ready. Having said that, color matching was grueling. Bottom line, love this but not a holy grail.

GUCCI Face Sheer Blushing Powder in Soft PeachGUCCI Face Sheer Blushing Powder in Soft Peach

GUCCI Face Sheer Blushing Powder in Soft Peach #030 (AED 230) – is insanely pretty in real life as it is in the pan. This striking, soft color is perfect for spring and for every season in between! Therefore, from a price point of view certainly is a good investment. To further support your purchase decision, I’m happy to report the texture, pigmentation and longevity of this powder blush are top-notch. Finely milled, soft texture, extreme pigment and super blending ability make your life easy when applying. However, I suggest a very light hand application because it is one of the more pigmented blushes I’ve own.

GUCCI Face Luxe Finishing Powder
GUCCI Face Luxe Finishing Powder

GUCCI Face Luxe Finishing Powder in #060 (AED 250/-) – looks stunning with logo embossing.  The sturdy luxe compact packaging is truly a winner (any day)! Plus, you’d never feel embarrassed to take this out in public for a quick on-the-way touch up. I’m usually not a big fan of inbuilt brushes that comes with compact powders but, the Gucci brush that lies underneath the powder compartment is damn good. Bristles are soft, ideal size for touch ups and truly a keeper. Talking about the texture of the product – it is very sheer, with low coverage and finely milled similar to the blush. What I liked most was the amount of product my powder brush picked up on the first dip and its soft-satin finish. The powder doesn’t add any radiance nor does it mattify. It’s more of a finishing powder to set & hold the base. Longevity wise it performed fairly okay with staying put for 4 hours. I liked it very much but not that I can’t live without it. And again, finding a perfect match was an issue.

GUCCI Opulent Volume Mascara in Iconic Black
GUCCI Opulent Volume Mascara in Iconic Black

GUCCI Opulent Volume Mascara in Iconic Black – was one of my first purchases from the brand and I’ve used it all throughout my Dec’14 holiday. Here’s what I like. This is one of the mascaras’ that deliver zero drama yet separates, lengthens and thickens the lashes like no other. Plus doesn’t weigh down the lashes even after layering. The color is intense and veryblack. The formula gets two thumbs up for fast drying quality & longevity. Despite the name suggests, it doesn’t add crazy volume! This could be a downer for many but, not for girls who opt for long, separate lashes that open up the eyes! However, my holy grail Le Volume de Chanel mascara still ranks high in the world of mascaras.

GUCCI Luxurious Moisture-rich lipsticks in Heartbreaker & Boudoir
GUCCI Luxurious Moisture-rich lipsticks in Heartbreaker & Boudoir

GUCCI Luxurious Moisture-rich lipsticks in Heartbreaker & Boudoir (AED 205/- each)– are the best from Gucci and truly love them to bits.  The coverage, texture and pigments are amazing. The formula is hydrating and glides on like a dream.  The very opulent, soft & high sheen finish is another plus point. Also, they cover the lips in one swipe. Both lipsticks lasted for 6 hours applied on top of lined lips.  Longevity is surprisingly remarkable for a lipstick with hydrating and emollient formula.

Boudoir is a more of a brick red (right) with a brown undertone and Heartbreaker (left) is a pretty mauve pink. Both are universally appealing but (hell) expensive for a bullet of lipstick!
Wearing Gucci foundation, soft peach blush, powder, mascara, Eye pencil in Midnight blue & Boudior
GUCCI Impact Long wear Eye Pencil in Midnight Blue – is a waterproof eyeliner that comes with a smudger at one end. This pretty metallic deep blue is an odd choice as I more often than not pick the most boring colors however, I’m glad I did. Pigment is very intense and will stay on without zero budging and smudging till you take off which is an additional difficult task. It’s more like cemented from the moment you put it on.  For a high-end eye pencil this is excellent and worth every penny.
Wearing Gucci foundation, soft peach blush, powder, mascara & Heartbreaker
In conclusion, I think GUCCI has done very well in terms of powder blushes, lipsticks and eye pencils. They are my best-loved which lived up to the quality. Since the shade assortment of the foundation and powder products are haywire and heavily undertone dependent; swatching is must. If it’s a perfect match, there’s no looking back! You’d walk straight to the cashier.
