Summer is already upon us. Dubai has been hitting 45 degrees easily in the past 2 weeks and saying ‘its hot’ is an understatement. With the this heat, you must bring out the sun care products, soothing toners to refresh and from a makeup point of view, you are allowed to overkill the bronzer, bright pop lips and top up your tan.
In that note, I’m starting the first summer 2015 collection review with Guerlain Summer 2015 Color Collection, that is already launched in Dubai. Among other brands, Guerlain usually pitches some ‘big-guns’ that make a debut & becomes famous every summer collection. Like every summer collection, Guerlain gives so much of attention to bronzer! And this year too. Let’s get down to to the low down of the products and the reviews shall we?
TERRACOTTA Bronzing Powder Moisturizing and Long Lasting (LE) #03- Naturel/Natural Brunettes Coral
First impressions: Muddy! Pop color silicone shell concept is fun, fits into your handbag or a beach bag and has a personal touch.
Final thoughts: Bloody good bronzer! Even for medium skin tones. Though it looks muddy in the pan, it actually ins’t when worn. I like the formula. It is slightly different, if not better than the winning Terracotta formula. Comparatively, this is more pigmented, darker & has a striking orange-brown hint that aided my ‘muddy notion’. The gold shimmer particles (undetectable) leaves a subtle sheen behind – which is beautiful. So if you are like your bronzer with shimmer then this is your baby. And hands down one of the long-wearing bronzers I’ve come across. Stayed put for 7+hours on me and diffused well on the skin.
ROUGE AUTOMATIQUE in 662- Fluo Stiletto Lipstick (LE)
First impressions: Beautiful & oh-my-god so N.E.O.N!
Final thoughts: It was easier said than done to pull off this neon pink ( with cool undertone) on me. But for fairer skins this promises a bright summer pink pout – so please don’t hesitate to pick this one. Similar to other ROUGE AUTOMATIQUE lipsticks texture is creamy, non-drying and wore 3-4 hours on me.
White Sand Summer Liquid Shadow (LE)
First impressions: Pretty. Smart packaging also can be used as a highlighter.
Final thoughts: Such a beautiful shade that everyone must own (look at the swatch below). If you apply straight from the applicator, chances are that you’d end up in a unforgiving state. I used an eyeliner brush to line inner corners and a creamy shadow brush to deposit the color to the center of the lid. This way, you have time to blend (as it dries really fast) and to build intensity as required. However I’m not sure if it’s worth buying! It’s pretty? Yes. Creamy? Yes. Water-resistant? No. Wet your fingertips & swipe across the eyes – all gone within seconds which is very disheartening. Not sure why would Guerlain say it is when it’s NOT at all water proof! Now this affects the long lasting wear of the product. So until you wet it or sweat it, the shadow will stay put little over 2-3 hours with the help of slight fading.
Based on the products I’ve reviewed, Guerlain Summer 2015 Color Collection is a mediocre collection. Liquid eye shadow was promising, looked absolutely gorgeous in the tube but miserably failed. Such a bummer as this was the only notable product in the entire collection I was looking forward to purchase. Clearly, TERRACOTTA Bronzing Powder took all the credit as it is the star product. And by all means a quality one to own this summer for soft contouring or to sculpt your already tanned face.
