Skin 101 : Lip Balms

Lip Care products

The only way to weatherproof your lips during the cold snap is to invest in a good lip balm. There are thousands of lip balms out there, and granted, most will do a decent job but here is my take on what I own.

Vaseline petroleum jelly– Whats not to love about this wonder cream. Anything cracked gets healed and lips aren’t any exception.

Karen Murrell Moisture Stick Lip Balm – strives to provide only the natural ingredients including avocado oil, evening primrose oil and Carnauba wax to ensure that “nothing nasty” touches your lips’ and I love how this lip balm is shaped like a lipstick, as this makes it so easy to apply! It also makes it perfect for tossing in the bag and taking with you on the go. It is not colored, however it does offer a gorgeous natural shine which leaves your lips looking fuller. I really like how moisturizing this lip balm is, and it doesn’t feel sticky or oily.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant – There is absolutely nothing dry or chapped that this cream cannot soften. Same goes with the lips by instantly healing & softening them.

Bliss Fabulips Softening Lip Balm
– is enriched with shea butter, jojoba and grapeseed oils and vitamin E to soften the lips. It is in a twist up tube but it is incredibly soft so be careful about twisting it up too far. It almost melts into your lips forming a luxurious barrier between the harsh elements and lips. It’s convenient as it is easy to carry with you and reapply throughout the day. Though I really liked using this balm to soften the lips it also made my lips slightly dry. Performance wise it is average for me but much better than chap sticks.

Rodin olio lusso Lip Blam – is a silent performer that is really nourishing and comes in a luxe package. Read my complete review here.

Chanel Hydramax + Active Nutrition Lip Care – is much hard & comes in waxy consistency compared to the soft textures I’ve tried before. It’s a really nourishing product without any sticky tackiness. It works well as a base for lipsticks and lip gloss, but really, so does many other cheaper, drugstore alternatives. Over-priced for a lip blam but what do you expect from Chanel? Performance aspect it does what is says and if you like to have a fancier and chic product in your stash then this is it. As a lip base this is awesome.

Eucerin Sensitive Skin Lip Active – Is simply amazing. When used on my dry lips I felt comfortable. Moreover it feels silky smooth and ready for the lipsticks. Loved the way it cured my dry lips being a drugstore brand (again underrated). Performance wise this works really hard on the lips.

Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF 15 – Very moisturizing. I really like the packaging. It’s sleek, modern. The color is a soft pink in the pot, but does not impart any color on the lips. This has a very nice, thicker consistency that stays put all night and for several hours during the day. The texture is nice and non-greasy; I also really appreciate the fact that this has SPF – very handy for the upcoming summer months!!
